Jamie Flanagan, Adviser
James ‘Jamie’ Flanagan combines his passions for working with young people, journalism, and broadcasting. He is an English teacher who advises for the yearbook, the school paper The Flash, the Literary Magazine, and the broadcast classes. His broadcast students have won several ‘Pillars of Excellence’ awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. They are also proud to be part of the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs project.
Mr. Flanagan received his Master’s in Education at Wayne State, Bachelor’s in English from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, and a Journalism Endorsement from Michigan State University; he has no idea what team sweatshirt to wear.
Recognized as a Certified Journalism Educator (CJE) buy the Journalism Education Association (JEA), Mr. Flanagan also sat on the executive board for the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association (MIPA) as the Digital Media Chair and the Video Chair for several years.
Mr. Flanagan has been in radio hosting talk and music formats since 1992 at stations like 96.3 WDVD, 1270 WXYT, 92.1 The Edge, 1400 WDTK, Online Radio Cobra Detroit and many more.
