MacBooks And Their Impact
November 15, 2017
During the first week of school, the students had been given new MacBooks for the year. The macbooks are new to the district this year and have replaced the Ipads that have been used in the district since 2012.
“After talking with the students and staff along with a careful review of products available, we decided that MacBooks would be the best device for our students. One reason is that this device most closely mirrors what is expected at the collegiate level. It is important to note that on most days most of the MacBook carts were being almost fully utilized, “said Michael Lonze, the principal of Fraser High School.
Principal Lonze said that the macbook cost $784 and has been given to all students. Staff hopes that the macbooks will improve the student’s academic success and be more helpful for students with their classes.
“I believe that the MacBooks have helped to reinforce the academic culture of the high school, “ Lonze said.
Many of the students like the new macbooks and find them very helpful.
“The macbooks are really nice and I like them a lot. I find the new macbooks very helpful in class, and they’re better than the Ipad because they are faster and newer technology,” sophomore Emily Fouchey said.
Fouchey uses her macbooks for essays and research in her classes and loves how easy it is to navigate.
“I like the setup better, personally, because it’s easier to find things and search things,” Fouchey said.
Macbooks have made Fouchey school life easier and have been very helpful in her school work. The Macbooks have been more useful and helpful for many of the students.
“I like the MacBooks, they are useful in most of my classes like English,” said sophomore Shellby James..
James uses the macbooks for typing essays, research, and speech to text in French.
“The macbooks are very helpful in most of my classes and I like them better than the iPads because they were getting old and slow, Jamessaid.
James classwork has been easier manage too because of the setup of the macbooks.
“I like the keyboard because it’s easy to type on instead of the iPads, and being able to pulls up two windows at once is nice,” said James.
James have enjoyed the macbooks so far and finds it very helpful in class compare to the iPads.
“I like the macbooks because I think they are more helpful than the iPad’s,” said Leesa Wright, the French teacher.
“I think we are very lucky to have the macbooks, very helpful for the school day, and I think, from a foreign language perspective, we can access many more websites since we have flash and learn more with macbooks,” Wright said.
Wright has used the macbooks for playing French games on quizlet and letting her students using French diction for her students to try their French speaking skills.
“The macbooks are very helpful to the students, and I think they are less distracting than the iPad’s from last year. So far, the macbooks have been helpful, and I’m excited to have them and see what more they can offer this year,” Wright said.
Many of the teachers are using the Macbooks to do activities that they couldn’t have done with the ipads, such as speech to text and polls to have conversation in class, pushing kids to participate more and get involve in discussions that are important.
“It is our intent that the MacBooks will be used to help our students push their learning to deeper levels by allowing our teachers to have the necessary resource for high rigor activities,” Lonze said.
The macbooks have had many positive effects on the students and teachers in the school, and the staff hope they continue to have positive effects.
