96.3 WDVD’s Blaine’s Not So Silent Night
Frontman of Blue October, Justin Furstenfeld goes acoustic for their set.

Closed down for two years, the Emerald Theatre in Mount Clemens makes its grand re-opening by hosting Blaine’s Not So Silent Night presented by 96.3 WDVD. The benefit show took place on December 15, 2016. All ticket proceeds were donated to Children’s Miracle Network and Beaumont Children. Despite the cold weather, many were lined up outside before the theatre even opened its doors. By the time 7 o’clock hit, the entire theatre floor was filled.
Kicking off the night was Blaine Fowler (Host of The Blaine Fowler Morning Show on 96.3 WDVD) and his band, The Blaine Fowler Experience. They covered many feel-good songs including “Summer of ’69” and “My Own Worst Enemy”. Next, the crowd was treated with a surprise performance from The Rua. Having toured with Blue October in the past, 96.3 asked The Rua to play at the show that night after their visit with the station. The crowd was delighted to hear the trio’s Irish rock sound.
The third performer of the night was Wrabel, an R&B artist who loves to pour emotion and feeling into his songwriting. Wrabel kept things comfortable between him and the audience by telling stories before each song. He performed his two hits, “11 Blocks” and “Ten Feet Tall” along with others.
The show’s main performance of the night was Blue October’s Justin Furstenfield and Matthew Ostrander. Their set was completely acoustic, which added to the intensity of each song. Furstenfield told funny and relatable stories to explain each song, but also had some serious ones. The duo opened with “Calling You”, a fan favorite. Then they immediately transitioned into the beginning lyrics of “Into The Ocean”, which made the audience want to sing along.
The last song performed by Blue October was their newest single “Home”. Frontman Justin Furstenfield set down his guitar, took the microphone off the stand and stood up to sing the last song rather than sit. The passionate and home-like lyrics ended the night on an amazing note.
