Fraser Defeats Rival Stevenson
April 14, 2016
Wednesday night marked the second game for the Lady Ramblers soccer team this year. It also marked the second win of the year for Fraser. Wednesday night’s game was one between Macomb County rivals as the schools’ are just a few miles from one another.
Fraser’s Tyler Ledford scored the lone goal for the Ramblers off a beautifully placed corner kick by University of Detroit Mercy commit Riley McCleese. Even coach Mukhtar was impressed as we spoke to MIPrepZone’s Andrea Nelson. “Tyler Ledford scoring on that header, that was just a brilliant goal,” said Fraser girls coach Thaier Mukhtar. Fraser’s Abby Moss and her back line were able to shutout their second opponent of the year. Moss had 6 saves and controlled the box well for the entire game thanks to the help of Allison Kowalski, Tyler Ledford, Kennedy Barr, and Gabby Anderson.
Stevenson on the other hand played a good first half, but had a rough second half. They had trouble connecting on passes and even when they did, they were unable to finish with a goal. Even Stevenson coach Josh VanHouten was displeased with his team’s chemistry.“We came out strong in the first ten minutes,” VanHouten said. “We had a lot of opportunities, which is a positive for us. This is early in the season, it’s a great chance to evaluate our team again and look at things we need to work on.” If Stevenson wants to have a good season and do something in the postseason, they need to start meshing soon.
Stevenson (1-1) is on the road Friday night as they travel to MAC Gold school Clawson (1-2) while Fraser (2-0) travels to Cousino (0-3) for a Friday night showdown.
