Fraser wins big at Districts
February 17, 2016
February 13 marked the start of the postseason for Fraser wrestling. Districts is a yearly, individual tournament that is a stepping stone for the Division 1 Individual State Tournament. Saturday, the Ramblers were able to get ten of the thirteen kids they entered at Division 1 Districts to the Division 1 Regionals at Hartland next Saturday.
Seniors Nathan Hollifield (103 lb) and Jared Roberts (160 lb) were the only two Ramblers to win their Districts and will receive a #1 seed at next weekend’s Regional. Senior Paul Shock and sophomore Chris Hackney squared off in the District semi final, where Paul Shock beat Hackney, 7-2. Shock finished 2nd while Chris Hackney placed 3rd. Both are in good shape to qualify for States. The only other seniors to get out of District were the King brothers as both finished 4th at the 125 lb and 130 lb weight class. Elijah Tucker made it out of the 215 lb District, taking 3rd place and advancing to Regionals for a second consecutive year. Danny Pfeffer lost in the 140 lb finals to Layne Malczewski. This is the second time this year as Layne beat Danny to win the County’s this season. Sophomores Seth Fillar (112 lb) and Jalen Smith (135 lb) also made it out and finished 4th and 3rd respectively. The Ramblers compete as at Team Regionals next Wednesday, February 17th at home against Lakeview. The meet starts at 5pm and the winner will face off with the winner of the Stevenson/Dakota match. If Fraser can beat both Lakeview and the winner of Stevenson/Dakota, they will go on to Team States (Feb. 26-27 @ Central Michigan) and be the first ever Fraser Wrestling team to do so. The ten Ramblers who qualified for Individual Regionals, will wrestle at Hartland next Saturday, February 20th. Wrestling starts at 9pm sharp. Come out and support your Ramblers.
