As the season winds down, two guys who were expected to be a big part of the team, finally stepped up. Fraser’s Matt Harper and Trevor Fudge both have had disappointing senior seasons, but on Wednesdsy night they each had their best game of the year. They helped Fraser win their 6th game of the year, which is 5 more than last year’s team. The team is now sitting at 4-7 in the conference and with an overall record of 6-11.

Wednesday night’s matchup (Feb 27), pinned the Fraser Ramblers vs the Anchor Bay Tars. The game started out as slow as any for the Ramblers this year and while it seemed the game would be close, Fraser pulled away in the second half. The half time score seemed to be more of a first quarter score than a half time one. The teams missed many shots and played strong man defense. The. Ramblers went into half with a 14-11 lead with Matt Harper leading the way.

Entering the second half, the Ramblers needed a strong second half so that they could win the game. Coach Wandrei must’ve lit a fire under the team as they came out and dominated the third quarter. The Ramblers were led by the scoring of Matt Harper and Trevor Fudge. Matt Harper scored 6 points in the third by penetrating the lane, which wouldn’t have been possible had senior Trevor Fudge not spaced the floor with his jumper. The 6’6″ center hit a deep jumper and a three pointer to not only add some points to the board, but to space the floor for the Ramblers. This made the defenders come out and guard Fudge while allowing Harper and others to attack the basket. They would put 18 points in the quarter to Anchor Bay’s minuscule 7 points. That gave Fraser a 32-18 lead to end the third.

The fourth quarter was close in scoring, but the Tars could not match Fraser when it came to offensive talent. The Tars outplayed the Ramblers, but only out scored Fraser by 3 points. The team’s scored 22 and 19 points respectively during the fourth quarter. Not much defense was played during the fourth and it shows as 41 of the 91 points between the teams was scored during that time. Fraser is slowly coming together as the Districts for basketball approach.

Anchor Bay was led in scoring by Tino DeJesus and Noa Guyr, both scored 9 points for the Tars. The Tars are now 4-13 on the season and aren’t looking in too good of shape after another 10+ point loss. They will be playing at home Friday night against a great Dakota team. This will be a tough game for the Tars as they hope to achieve a 5th win this season.

Fraser’s leading scorer was not Shawn Jackson (4 points) this time, which is a first in a long time for the team. Instead Matt Harper led the team with 11 points and Trevor Fudge added 10 points off the bench. This was Trevor’s best varsity performance in his entire career. It’s good to see these two guys finally show everyone what they are capable of. Fraser’s win now brings them to 6-11 and have another game this week at home. It will be at 7:30 on Friday night against Center Line. Be there to watch Fraser hopefully capture another win as the build on their solid season.
