Dakota Trumps Fraser
February 16, 2015
A struggling girl’s Dakota team had been reeling for a win and that is exactly what they got Friday night.
Dakota came into the game Friday night as a 2-13 team. They were expected to get beat handedly by a solid Fraser team. Instead they flipped the switch and pulled out a ten point victory against the Ramblers.
“They need the confidence,” McCune said. “I think we’ve lost nine or ten in a row, it’s been way too long. Now I think they have what they need to be ready. This is a growing program and everyday we’re just going to get better and better.”
A win against a team like Fraser would definitely help build the Lady Cougar’s confidence. With such a young team, confidence and playing time are the best way to help grow these players. Dakota could be a force in the MAC Red by this time next year.
Senior Carmen Hopkins and Sophomore Emily Langolf each scored fourteen points for the Cougars. Carmen was able to move well without the ball Friday night. This helped her score and spread the floor for the team. Emily on the other hand was able to get into the lane, which led to easy baskets inside and multiple free throws.
Fraser had a rough night as they were never able to take control of the game or the pace. The Ramblers trailed for nearly the full thirty two minutes in the game. Every time Fraser would start a small scoring run, the Cougars would answer right back.
After three quarters, the Ramblers were down by seven points. They needed to score and they needed to score often. The Ramblers could not find any type of scoring and were unable to beat a desperate Dakota team.
Dakota would go on to capture their third win of the year. They are now 3-13 on the year and are now looking for their first win in the MAC Red division.
Dakota will look to build on this win as they travel to Cousino on February 17th for a chance at their first MAC Red conference win. The MAC Red divsion is the highest in Division 1 high school sports.
Fraser will stay undefeated in conference play as this was a crossover game between the MAC Blue and MAC Red division. They are now 11-4 on the season and have four games left for the year. They will look to get back on the winning path as they will travel to Lake Shore on February 17th for a conference game. This is a preview of the District Opening Round that will be played between these two teams.
