Fraser Falls to Mt.Clemens
February 2, 2015
Friday night’s game marked one of the hardest that Coach Marshall and the Ramblers played all season long. This was the second game of a three game home stretch for the team. The varsity team had just beat Port Huron at home on Tuesday by a score of 54-51. The team had faced Mt.Clemens last year, but this team was returning no starters nor were they returning with their coach. The team was now coached by Willie Betts and had promoted many bench players from last years 24-2 team to full time starters.
This year’s team was developed under coach Betts’ idea of team basketball and it worked out well for the team all year long. Coach Betts has been able to get strong contributions from Destin Jones, Joshua Mills, Devin Felts, and Daniel Miller. Friday night’s game was no different either as all four scored in double figures and out scoring Fraser 53-45.
The game was close after the first quarter as the Battling Bathers led 15-13. As the second quarter got into full swing, Mt.Clemens flipped the switch and were able to out score Fraser 20-4. This took them into a half time lead of 35-17. Everyone in the gym could tell that Coach Betts was more than happy with the way his team played during the 1st half.
The Ramblers came out and played the same way they had throughout the second quarter. Sloppy and a lack of energy. They were not able to make this game much closer as the Bathers would go on to take a 63-45 conference win to keep themselves undefeated in MAC Blue play. The Battling Bathers were led in scoring by Destin Jones, who had 16 points. Devin Felts and Daniel Miller each contributed with 13 points while the team’s leading scorer for the season, Joshua Mills, finished with just 11 points.
Fraser could not get much going offensively. Matt Harper, one of the team’s captains, was held to just 1 point for the 2nd time this year. Shawn Jackson and Marcus Rice were the only ones to score in double digits a with 13 and 15 points respectively. The Ramblers must fix their offensive troubles if they want to win through the toughest stretch of the season.
The Ramblers look to get back on a winning streak as they face the Anchor Bay Tars (3-9) in their second conference match up of the year. The game is at home on Tuesday (Feb. 3rd) at 7:30pm.
