Macomb mall is a county landmark; it’s 50 years old. In May 2013 the mall was bought by West Bloomfield-based Lormax Stern Development Co. The mall has been around since 1964 and is currently home of some of the national “anchor” stores: Kohl’s, Sears, Old Navy, and Babies “R” Us.

With the mall being in new hands, it received $8.4 million to make improvements. Already the mall built a Dick’s Sporting Goods where the old Value City use to be and added in Shoe Carnival next to Kohl’s. They even re-built the mall’s sign.

“In addition, the mall owners plan to spruce up the interior with new ceilings, lights, flooring and restrooms, while the parking lots will receive new surfacing, lighting, islands and pedestrian walkways,” Mitch Holts states in an article he wrote for the Macomb Daily.

The mall will also be adding in a Chipotle, H&M, Ulta Beauty, Michigan-based Red Olive restaurant, and Rue 21 and replacing Lady Foot Locker and a fine jewelry store. Several of the other stores already in the mall will be receiving face lifts in the near future.

The mall attained the vacant Longhorn Steakhouse in front of the mall with be transformed into a multi-tenant building; furthermore, the cinema will be demolished and replaced with a different national theater chain.

The re-modeling of Macomb Mall aims to attract more customers and bring in more revenue, hopefully becoming a diamond in the rough.
