Fraser Tennis: Team Morale
September 15, 2014
On the first cold day of the Fraser Boy’s Varsity Tennis team’s season (September 12, 2014), they faced Marysville, a team that if given slack will find a player’s Achilles Heel and exploit it.
Ramblers were up 5-1 with 2 and 3 Doubles still duking it out in their second sets; first sets won. Their teammates congregated between the two courts; cheering after an impressive point and commenting on the racket use of both sides.
2 Doubles finished in a win 6-2, 7-6(5), making the team score 6-1. With 3 doubles left, the guys gathered safe distance from the fence, huddling together for warmth like a barrel of monkeys, to watch Eric Clark and Kyle Allor, wrap up their second set.
After every point’s completion, the team either they cheered or bellowed encouragement.
When the second set amounted in a loss, a third set began. The dissatisfaction of our 3 Doubles team was noticeable as their eyes were downcast and away from each other. However, their spirits did not stay down long: they were noticeably picked up when their teammates rooted for them. Hardly any Marysville players were cheering, possibly they barely watched at all as the Marysville 3 Doubles won.
In the end, Fraser won 6-2 with a MAC Blue score of 3-0-0. The boys showed (VERB) sportsmanship and camaraderie. Kudos to you!
