It is uncommon to come across someone who has never heard of Harry Potter or Twilight. Most have strong opinions on the two book series turned into movies. Both Harry Potter and Twilight chose to end their series of movies in a part 1 and 2 by breaking apart the last book of each series. Twilight: the book series about a girl named Bella who meets a vampire and falls in love against all odds. This book takes one through love, action, and heart break, which made it the perfect book to turn into a movie. Twilight has four books in the series: Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn. Harry Potter is a book series about a wizard and his two best friends. This book takes you through dramatic tragedy, betrayal, and in the end victory. Harry Potter has seven books in the series: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 1 brought in $330 million in the first weekend of being released. Breaking Dawn Part 1 brought in $281.3 million in the first weekend of being released. One difference in sales is what gender prefers what. 9/10 men prefer Harry Potter over twilight. However 5/10 women prefer Harry Potter over Twilight. Twilight is not meant to be a “girly” saga; however, the most common fans are female due to the fantasy of love. Harry Potter on the other hand reaches out to both genders with a lot of action and just a hint of romance. Harry Potter and Twilight are both about the supernatural world yet it expresses itself differently, Twilight focus’ on the fight for love. While Harry Potter focus’ on the fight for justice. The average rating for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 1 was a 4.2/5 while Breaking Dawn Part 1 had a 3.2/5 rating according to rottentomatoes.com. As one can see, Harry Potter has tended to bring in more money and had higher ratings. The Harry Potter franchise made a total of $24.7 billion. The Twilight franchise made a total of $4.7 billion. To compare these two prices would not be fair though, Harry Potter has three more books and four more movies than Twilight did so money does not make a fair show of which is more popular. Both Harry Potter and Twilight have been very successful. Twilight’s last movie was just released with very successful box office numbers. So what’s next? Harry Potter and Twilight are now finished. It’s time for something new, this being The Hunger Games which is also a book series turned into movies, the first movie was released in 2012 and the first book was released in 2008. Hunger Games seems to be the new hook in Twilight and Harry Potter fans lives.
