Fraser High School runner Cameron Martin broke the Freshman cross country record previously held by junior Lance Edghill.
His goal at this County Meet was to complete the course in under 17 minutes. He not only cut an impressive amount of time from his goal, but he earned the title of the fastest freshman cross country runner in the history of Fraser High School.
The old record held by Edghill was 1654.8, earned in 2022. Martin ran 1647.2 en route to an all county finish, beating Edghill’s best.
Cameron has been running for 3 years, and he has a bright future ahead of him. He hopes to eventually become a state champion. “It’s going to take some time, and I’m only a freshman, so I got some work to do,” Martin said when asked about his future in high school.
He aspires to continue running after high school as well. His plan is to eventually run in the Olympics or in big running events. He is willing to follow wherever his journey takes him as a runner, and he knows it will be far.
Martin offered some advice to those who are trying to meet their goals, just like him. “Whatever you’re good at, lock in and get better at it…that’s your talent, and you will eventually be rewarded for your hard work,” Martin said.
