Has your school ever abruptly switched your class schedules on you? This year Fraser has decided to do just that by taking away two everyday short classes, to full every other day ones. As far as I know this wasn’t announced, I just found out by teachers on my first day back. Today I will be interviewing some students and teachers to figure out their opinion on this year’s new schedule, why it has changed, and how it impacted their career/education.
According to Fraser student Nate Mayo, he feels that essentially the old schedule was more appropriate because we could scan out early everyday instead of every other. Also, if you do stay for smart and don’t have much homework, an hour and a half is a waste of time to just be sitting there rather than 45 minutes.
“Frasers change to schedule would be something we’d have to adapt too. Typically, Fraser would have 4/9, then smart, which juniors and seniors can scan out for daily but now due to the differences they may have to change their outside schedules as well. Like if they had a job right after school or activity.”
Having two classes that would end quicker than the rest made the day feel a little bit quicker even though it wasn’t. I believe Fraser made these changes to simplify school process by having all classes the same times/equal.
Miss Burke, one of Frasers sports med teachers, said new teachers had to be hired due to longer, every other day smart classes. The school had to add additional teachers for there to be enough overseeing them. Some lesson plans also had to be changed and we know all must adapt to these changes.
“I’m not used to give 90-minute lectures opposed to 45 so please bear with me when I ramble. We had to move around certain lesson plans due to the class changes,” stated miss burke.
